From Hungary’s viewpoint the summit has been encouraging

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that from Hungary’s viewpoint the two-day summit of EU heads of state and government in Brussels has so far been successful, “but at least encouraging”, though the “decisive battle” will have to be fought in May.

Head of the Prime Minister’s Press Office Bertalan Havasi reported Mr. Orbán’s opinion to kormany.hu after the Hungarian prime minister and members of the Hungarian delegation had evaluated the events of the EU summit so far on Friday morning.

Mr. Havasi said that the European Commission has not yet tabled its proposal on compulsory resettlement quotas. This may be presented to the heads of state and government at a later stage, in April or May.

The topic of the summit on Thursday and Friday has been solely confined to the agreement to be reached with Turkey. In his press release early on Friday afternoon Mr. Havasi added that at this point in time the agreement taking shape does not appear to include elements which would run counter to Hungary’s goals or be detrimental to the country.
